Animation
'Garden Again'A solo project from the 3rd year of my Bachelor of Animation Production at UTS. In this assignment, we were asked to create a micro-film with the theme of 'home'.Much of my childhood was spent exploring the back yard of what was my home at the time, but I have since moved and had to leave it all behind. 'Garden Again' explores the transition between childhood and adulthood, as we continually look back on fond memories from the past, memories that feel like 'home', even as we are unable to take them with us.
'Mid-Autumn Mooncakes'Direction, design, and animation by myself, Emma Randell, Elle Guo, and Isabella Archer. Based on the Poem of the same name by author Eileen Chong. A short film completed in our second year of the Bachelor of Animation Production at UTS.The assignment brief asked us to adapt a poem into a short film, with the inclusion of some elements of typography. This was the first film I ever worked on.
'My Lute!'Solo project. In this assignment, we were asked to adapt one of our previously created character designs for a 2D rig in Toon Boom Harmony, and then to animate and composite them inside a shot from a set we had created for a previous project (see 'Vulcan Theatre').
'Vulcan Theatre'Group assignment created with Elle Guo, Phoebe Liang, Emma Randell and myself! The brief involved creating a miniature set of a "secret place", and filming it in two distinct moods. We built the fictional "Vulcan theatre", an elaborate classic theatre with tiny chairs and golden gilded walls-- and then we destroyed it, to create the aftermath of a devastating fire.
'Percussion Concussion'A short film created and animated in collaboration with Nikita Sutedjo for our 3rd year, with music and sound by Justin Stamios. For this assignment, we were each asked to pair off into groups of 2, to create a short film with 2 main characters, one designed by each person. I designed the big Goopy Guy!I drew all the backgrounds for this project, with a simplified, stripped down look, to emulate a primary school scrapbook doodle feeling. I also created the stop-motion section with real paper and stick figure-like drawings of the characters to add to this feeling of schoolyard fun!
'French Lover'A solo storyboarding assignment, in which we were asked to use pre-made character designs and a provided script to create an animatic that included a dance sequence!Script written by Laurent Auclair.
'Ekia'I wrote, boarded, drew keys and clean-ups, and helped with colour for this EKIA infomercial!Narration, composite, and sound by Jay Beatty, with additional animation done by Haidi Yan and Lyn Wijaya. This video was a segment of an audio-visual experience for an audience. Our project, titled 'the living room' specifically sought to create a sense of absurdist whimsy by bringing various objects to life around a real-life set with the help of animation. This infomercial played on a television in our living room set.
'Dog Soup'A short hybrid film created with Emma Randell, Isabella Archer, and myself! The brief asked for us to marry real life with the animated! We each designed and animated one character (I animated the first, Isabella animated the second, and Emma animated the third), and inhabited a local bar with the little mischievous creatures. I also animated the shot from 1:00 to 1:04, and I was responsible for motion tracking with Nuke. Isabella created the end card!why is it called 'Dog Soup'? If you keep asking questions like that, you'll meet the same fate as the last guy...

Scrap Cat!
pitch bible
'Scrap cat'In the peaceful outback, an inventive scrapyard cat sets on a destructive quest for companionship-- upending the quiet existence of a cat-hating cook and her tinkering husband. This pitch bible was a group assignment we completed for our 3rd year of the bachelor of animation production at UTS. I was responsible for designing Cat, and assisted with iterations for the other characters and the environments.
Early development:Originally our idea entailed a fat apartment cat who came up with outrageous schemes to elicit food from every tenant of the building. We also explored the idea of a space dog causing havoc for aliens bent on the destruction of earth (but apparently that idea was taken...)
Further iterations:

Early episode structure test

early scrap cat iterations

nailing down the cat

hammering him home

and together...

Short Film
This task required we form pairs and each design one character to star in a short film together. I designed 'Goopy Guy'.I was also responsible for boarding and then drawing all the layouts and backgrounds for the final film! You can see some of that process below.
The sequence pictured above was achieved by animating in a very simplified style to look like pencil doodles, and overlaying a paper texture onto the animation to give the illusion of real stop-motion.Real stop-motion was used in the transitions between this sequence and the surrounding, regular animation, by printing out a screenshot of the first and last frames of the sequence, and taking photos of it being progressively scrunched up.
The Bard Brothers
Character Designs
This brief tasked us with creating a character inspired by a musical instrument, and then designing a matching sibling character!
The Living Room
Audio-Visual Experience (EOI)
We were tasked with designing an audio-visual experience that featured animations and created the feeling of joy and wonder for the viewer. I was responsible for designing the layouts for the EOI document above.
The Sheep Barber
Character Design
We were tasked with designing a character based on a costume designed by a fellow student.
